Better access to safe water for 155 households in Kebelle Simret and Meswaeti in Endamokoni, Tigray was enabled through the construction and rehabilitation of three community water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities. These activities are part of the Government of Ethiopia's Response-Recovery-Resilience for Conflict Affected Communities in Ethiopia (3R4CACE) Project, which is financed by the World Bank and implemented by UNOPS.

Works on the May Chiknichk spring included the construction of the spring source, the new collection chamber with a 10 cubic meter water reservoir and three new distribution water points, together with the installation of 1,8 km of new pipeline. The water discharge on the spring was increased by 50 percent.

In community WASH May Sarya spring, works envisaged rehabilitation of the spring source and collection chamber, installation of a 30 meters long main pipeline, together with the construction of the new water point and cattle trough. Rehabilitation of the Meswaeti Town water supply included installation of 350 meters of distribution pipeline.

The quality of water in all the WASH facilities is acceptable as per the water quality standard.

During these activities, the local community played a vital role by participating in labor-based works in construction of water points and supply of local materials, overcoming challenges posed by difficult access to construction sites. All essential materials, including pipes, fittings, cement, and reinforcement bars, were transported with community assistance, demonstrating the effectiveness of cooperative efforts.
