Two schools in Hawzen, Tigray - Megab Primary School and Mariam Zala Primary School - were successfully reconstructed as part of the Government of Ethiopia's Response-Recovery-Resilience for Conflict Affected Communities in Ethiopia (3R4CACE) Project, which is financed by the World Bank and implemented by UNOPS. This improved conditions for the education of more than 1,800 students.

After suffering significant damage, both schools were covered by the project to ensure appropriate infrastructure recovery. The Mariam Zala Primary School in Hawzen Woreda now has two new block buildings with eight classrooms and an admin building, while Megab Primary School has one block building with a total of 4 classrooms, where each classroom can host at least 50 students. Both schools have hybrid toilet buildings with septic tanks and soak away pits, a water supply and electrical systems. Outside works on both schools included fences, walkways, water points and landscaping, while the new gate was constructed in Mariam Zala Primary School.
